This nostalgic game has received some updated elements !
Arena Pinball offers two separate modes of play, each with multiple games of their own. First, is the Classic mode. The Classic game employs a turn based method of playing and boasts the ability to play against either a computer or another human.
The game play is intuitive and easy to pick up – simply drag the paddle back, until releasing it finally and striking the ball. The further the users drag the paddle back, the more velocity their ball will have. The game puts up the usual pinball obstacles to try and foil their success, but they’re fun and easy to master.
The Arcade style of game is a bit different. Unlike typical arcade pinball where the goal is to try to keep the ball on the playing field for as long as possible, in this version users shoot steel balls at your opponents. However, it’s not as easy as it sounds – between them and their opponent lies a field of empty holes: Users have to shoot their balls into the holes, to claim them.
The first person to fill five holes wins, and missing balls either disappear after a few seconds, or transform into bumpers that make aiming a even more difficult. Game modes aside, the game offers a nice variety when it comes to opponents. Users can either play against the computer or with 2-4 friends. And while the arcade mode is fast-paced and frenzied, the other modes are almost relaxed by comparison.
Arena Pinball comes with four arenas available for free. By purchasing the in-app upgrade, you can get access to 8 more arenas for only 99 cents. Once you get into the game, it’s worth checking out the extra levels to add some variety to the gaming experience.
The style is nostalgic, the graphics are nice, and the aiming seems to work well. The controls are straightforward and easily mastered. If you grew up playing pinball or have only ever known it as a nostalgic throw back to the past, in my opinion, this original take on pinball is worth checking out.
