A highly handy tool!
EZCOMMA is a grammar app that is both fun and useful in its simplicity, making it a highly handy tool for aspiring writers who are seeking to develop their writing style, as well as experienced writers who are looking for a tool that will simplify the writing process even further! Usually, it takes years and years for one person to start from learning how to write to becoming a good and an even better writer. With the EZCOMMA app, becoming the better writer they have always wanted to be takes mere minutes.
Developed by English teacher and reading specialist David Tick, EZCOMMA is a reference app that focuses primarily on one’s writing and grammar skills. As the app name implies, it is geared towards the usage of the comma punctuation which, let’s face it, is one of the main problems of even the more experienced writers. Once the app has been installed in your Android, opening it by simply tapping on it will immediately bring you to the navigation menu. Here, you will meet your grammar and writing teacher, aptly named Mr. E. Z. Comma, with his immaculate white shirt and blue tie.
As Mr. E.Z. Comma delivers his lessons on correct comma usage and sentence structures, his words are projected onto the screen for easier reading, in a chalkboard right on your Android. Users have the option of turning the sound on or off. When turned on, the lesson can be carried out with original music played by Tick and his band. Those who prefer to learn in a quiet environment can just as easily choose to mute it. There are seven lessons in all, and at the end of each lesson is a quiz that will test all that you have learned from Mr. E.Z. Comma. Lessons 1a and 1b cover comma usage in prepositional phrases; lesson 2 is on commas in compound sentences with coordinating conjunctions; lesson 3 is on substituting a semicolon for a comma and coordinating conjunction pair; lesson 4 is on substituting a semicolon with a conjunctive advert for a comma and coordinating conjunction; and lessons 5a and 5b cover the usage of commas in complex sentences.
The first thing you will notice when you open the EZCOMMA app is its navigation menu. The user-friendly interface makes for a quick and easy navigation, and that is all due to the simplicity of the app. It has a no-fuss design that allows even a novice app user to explore its features fully and easily. The lessons are well-planned and well-explained. They are very clear and easy to understand, presented in such a manner that can be easily read, in dropdown chalkboards. The graphics are not spectacular and quite straightforward, but that is actually a strength more than a weakness, since it highlights the lesson better instead of overshadowing it with unnecessary detail.
Not only were the rules and lessons explained in great clarity and detail, there are also a lot of examples to make it easier to understand. The interactive review tests at the end of each lesson are also a great addition, and the fact that they can also be used as a pre-test is also a good thing. Unfortunately, the only sound you’ll hear from this app is the music by David Tick and his band. It would have been better if, aside from having the virtual lessons flashed on the chalkboard, it will also be narrated by Mr. E.Z. Comma.
For now, more advanced users may be looking for more lessons. The interactive Review Section is certainly a good touch. Hopefully, we will see more updates to the EZCOMMA app. Perhaps some related “games” thrown in, aside from additional lessons? Of course, if that happens, it is also likely that EZCOMMA will no longer be a free app.
