RateThis!, an iPhone app developed by CookieJar Solutions, takes the concept of “liking” a bit further. After launching it, users could see nine sections in the main screen – NewRate!, RateIt!, Trending!, MyRates!, Rated!, MyProfile!, Settings, ShareIt and Help. They can add a wide range of things like place, concept, software or service to NewRate! to get the opinion of the RateThis! community.
To add a comparison, users need to upload an image and input details like name, category, age group and location. Trending! area showcases all the trending comparisons. By tapping on a comparison, users can get a more detailed view. They can move to the next set just by just swiping.
RateThis! displays the winners with the green border and losers in red. Blue border indicates the rare case of tie. Users can visit the MyRate! section to view the comparisons uploaded by them, while the Settings area enables them to change the default preferences. The Help section explains the functionality of the app and offers a brief guidance on using it.
The major issue in RateThis! is the crashes. This app has an area called RateIt! and we can’t enter into it, even after trying several times. Another issue is “No Internet connection” notification. Even when the device has WiFi connectivity RateThis! fails to access Internet once in a while. The users need to close the app and launch it again for this. We tested it on iPod Touch 4. I think these two areas need immediate attention.
RateThis! is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later. It may be a good idea for the developer to take this app to Android and web platforms. It will engage more users to RateThis! This app might impress people who always look out for viewpoints. Try it!
