AccessToGo – RDP Client for Android

Access your desktop on the go!

Even after the arrival of smartphones and tablets, gaining remote access to a desktop is still a pain. There are apps for this, but most of them are slow, ineffective and pretty complex to operate. This review is about an impressive RDP client for smartphones.

AccessToGo, developed by Ericom Software, helps users access their PCs and its applications straight from their mobile device. After launching this app for the first time, users can see two demo connections – Accelerated RDP and Free RDP. Checking these demo connections would give an idea about using the app.

By tapping the New Connection button at the bottom, they can establish a new connection. It provides the option to choose among Free RDP, Blaze, VMware View, etc., (If the users want to connect with the Blaze RDP, they must have Ericom Blaze Server). The next window asks for details like Connection Name, Computer, Username and Password. Optionally they can enable Ericom Secure Gateway here.

When accessing desktops from mobile devices, accuracy is always a challenge. The developers have tried to overcome this issue with the touchpad pointer. Users can do things like switching between the pointers and enabling the keyboard by tapping the Menu button. If they find it difficult to handle things with the Android keyboard, they can switch to the PC keyboard from the Settings area.

AccessToGo is a great tool to get connected to Office documents and other apps, but if you are not familiar with RDP clients, this app can’t help you much. When we first checked it, the Online Help option lets users visit the site to get some guidance on using it. Unfortunately, it shows file not found error now (Update: It is working now). Let us hope that the developers are planning to present a comprehensive Help section.

AccessToGo is compatible with Android 2.1 and up and it needs at least 512 MB RAM to work without any hiccups. It is already a popular RDP client and has crossed 10k downloads in Google Play. This app is also available for iOS devices. AccesToGo can be a time-saver, if you love to access your desktop through RDPs.
