Odyssey: Alone Against the Whole Space

A classic arcade game!

If you love arcade style games from the 70s and 80s then you will absolutely love this classic blast to the past. Odyssey: Alone against the Whole Space brought by Anix LLC is amazing for the modern arcade fan. Keeping it on the line with vintage arcade games, the graphics are all 2-Dimentional and while they are of high quality, you still get that retro feel from the game. It feels very authentic. At times you become so engrossed, you might think you’re playing one of the old style arcade games.

The actual plot of Odyssey means you get to conquer and experience new worlds and enemies. All the worlds looking completely different from each other, so it’s not constantly the same background. You can explore different galaxies and surpass them to reach a higher level in the game, using different spaceships and weapons. The several game worlds have their own individual characteristics. You can even customize them to your will.

At the start of the game, you start with a level 1 ship and as you play, you gain resources which you can then use to buy a new and a better ship. By destroying space evils, one goes up the level in the game. The controls are really easy to use, there are two on-screen virtual joy sticks, one for each thumb in the bottom corners of the screen; you steer with the left joy stick and fire ammunition with the right joy stick. Thanks to the simple controls, you can start enjoying the game straight away.

The game begins at level 1 in the galaxy of Calypso. With the help of the left and the right joystick buttons, you have to steer the spaceship around the galaxy and destroy evil, thereby, collecting points. Initially, only one spaceship and one galaxy, Calypso is available to play; the rest of the levels have to be unlocked.

One of the best aspects of the game is that you can upgrade everything. There is what they have called it as, iridium material, which one earns as the game progresses and goes to a new level. Through this iridium material, you can get better vehicles, add improved weapons, install better armor and also increase the engine’s performance. This adds the extra excitement to the game, which keeps the player always interested, and eagerness to explore the new levels.

Although Odyssey does not bring us anything that we haven’t seen before, it is entertaining and is an upgrade of the old style arcade games. The only hiccup is that, while playing the game, there are advertisements that occur at the end of the screen, and there would be times when you would press on the advertisements. The developers of the game have provided for a payment scheme by which these adverts can be removed at a price of 0.99$ only.

Odyssey is available at free of cost and it is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad; it requires an iOS 4.3 or later. Overall, it is an average 2D game if you want to kill some time, the graphics and music is fantastic, easy to master controls and it makes the player totally engrossed in it, thereby maintaining the excitement level of the player.
