Cutetown San Francisco Creates the Cutest Maps

Create the city in 3D interface!

Map apps for smartphones and tablets have gained immensely in popularity over the last few years. Not only are these apps useful, but also quite intuitive. But creating your own map and that too including buildings and houses right from the scratch can be immensely fun. Cutetown San Francisco from Cutetown LTD has made this possible for iOS users. It’s a cute and fun map app for the San Francisco city that displays all the buildings in realistic yet beautiful 3D models.

Cutetown San Francisco lets its users create their own homes or other buildings in the city with the simple touch of a few buttons and using a simplified yet powerful 3D interface. First, the area where the building is to be put is chosen from the map. Then, the corners of the buildings are marked and the whole building is recreated by each floor. Smallest details like doors, windows, balconies, pavements and even television antennas can be added to the building. All these are done through a simple yet intuitive user interface. It’s almost a fun game like The Sims or Minecraft rolled into a map application.

While using the application for the first time, users are guided via a detailed tutorial. The tutorial gives step-by-step guidance on how to choose a building and finish the construction step by step via an interactive demo. Previous versions had some issues with the tutorial being complicated, but the latest version has eradicated that problem.  The 3D interface does not require any prior knowledge of 3D modeling or architecture. The models have cute and soft look to them that is completely different from other such map apps.

Whenever a building or part of the map is created and submitted, it becomes a part of the actual San Francisco map being demonstrated by the developers. The new version shows names of creators of all the buildings created. Also, you can now add your own signature if you create the house you live in. So, all your friends using Cutetown San Francisco will know which buildings you have created. Current version of the app does not let users access certain parts of the city, but as the development progresses, new areas will definitely be up for grab.

Some users have complained about the slowness of the application. Cutetown San Francisco has seemed quite slow even on latest generation iPads. Sometimes performing simple tasks can take an age to complete due to the slowness of the app. Since the app requires you to handcraft each piece of the building detail, the slowness can turn this into a pretty laborious practice. This problem also reduces the fluidity of the maps.

All in all, it is a nifty app for map lovers and especially for those who love to tinker around with stock maps and like to add their own details to the canvas. Currently, the app is being offered free for a limited period of time. So if you are into 3D maps, this app is a must have.
