Wiink – Share Your Videos

All video social networks in one app!

Social networking is certainly all the rage. You cannot find a single person today who is not on Facebook, Twitter or chatting it up on Skype. Sometimes, you just need a way to quickly capture a clip of reality and share it, immediately. That’s where Wiink comes to the rescue. There are many apps out there that claim to be great venues for uploading and sharing videos; they may even cost a bit. However, Wiink is free and ready to use amongst all your friends show join the club. You can, with a single tap of your finger, record and then send to individuals, friends or customized groups of recipients, call Communication Loops. There are many ways to share with this app, and the beauty is that it’s FREE and easy.

You can download Wiink on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, as long as it’s running iOS 5 or newer. Once you download and create an account, you are ready to record and share. For those of you who are into video clip chats, Wiink records in 30-second clips. Record your message and send it, while you have virtual conversations with friends broken by clips, rather than a full video stream. It’s kind of a different way to communicate, but nowadays, anything goes!

If you are aiming to record and share a moment, this app is perfect for that, as well. Simply click the camera from the main menu, which sits at the bottom of the screen. Recording starts, and it can be of yourself or something else. The screen shows a timer at the bottom right of the screen, in a faint white. Once you hit the 30-second mark, it automatically stops recording and takes you to the screen where you can setup an optional Wiink Bomb – a self-destruct timer on the clip. You also name and optionally tag the clip before sending your Wiink to Stream. It’s that simple. The beauty of self-destruct is you have the assurance that your clip will be destroyed after its intended sharing time. The creators of Wiink guarantee this. It’s kind of cute how it self-destructs, by the way. Clips set up for self-destruct have a time bomb icon on them. After you view one of these clips, it actually blows up in front of you, with sound effects and all.

The only downside to this app is the 30-second recording limit. It would be nice to take a 10-minute video and stream it live or upload it immediately. The best use of this app is to video chat or just share quick tidbits of information. I suppose you could even have those short conversations with your friends, if plain old texting just isn’t cutting it. Yet, sharing longer clips would be nice. I would even pay for it! In the end, it’s still a fun app to have, if you can get your friends and colleagues to join. It’s a quick version of YouTube and Skype all rolled into one – instant messaging with movement, if you will.
