Staying fit is no easy feat. We all have our moments when we finally admit that its time to get healthy by eating better and getting more exercise. The hard part is executing on that decision. Back in the day, it was easier to get that exercise, because much of what we did involved some physical activity. You can create that sense of urgency to get up and move with the help of technology the very thing that is the source of our idleness.
Updown is an app for your iPhone and iPad that serves as your personal trainer you can take with you, wherever you go. Its loaded with features that provide services a real personal trainer could never deliver.
It also allows you to personalize the app to meet your specific needs as you start out an exercise regimen, and as you grow more fit, so you are never bored and, more importantly, the workouts and programs evolve with you to provide you with the best results.
When you first download the app, you can choose to register immediately or later. Next, you will enter some basic information about you, so the app can begin building your profile, which enables it to offer options best suited for you.
Once you have entered some basic data, you will see the Generate Workout screen. This allows you to choose from four different categories:
Select one and then fill in the options presented based on what you are interested in. For example, in the Stretch category, it will ask if you want to do a Full Body stretch or just certain areas, like Upper Body, Lower Body, or even more specifically, your Back, Neck, Core, or Forearms.
After making those selections, you then select the location in which you will be performing your workout, how long you wish the workout to last, and the workout intensity.
Once you are done with that step, you select Go at the bottom of the screen and the app will do its magic. Simple and easy. Press Play and follow the guided steps to complete your workout. You can even view an animation to see how you are supposed to perform the exercise.
The app was so easy to use and I loved the variety it offered, that I spent more time working out than I ever imagined. It helped make exercising and stretching so much more fun; and, because you can change the inputs to fit whats happening in your life that day, it helps make sticking to an exercise program easier!
The only downside is that there a lot of information that gets displayed on the screen, so you have to read it carefully to know what to look at and what to ignore. I like that it also lets you try things out as a guest, so you dont have to commit right away.
I love this app and have shared it with several of my friends who always complain about not having time to workout, or dont know what to do. Well, now there is no excuse!
