Executing on projects is becoming more complex as the work environment we have traditionally been used to has now become more distributed locally and globally. Team members may be in your building, in another state, or in another country. This doesnt stop folks from creating, but it sure makes it a whole lot easier when you have the right set of tools.
BoostHQ is that kind of tool. Created by SkyPrep Inc., BoostHQ consolidates distributed information, so the entire team can see everything easily and collaborate seamlessly.
The app is a free download and, thankfully, there are no hidden features or functions that require any in-app purchases. Your download will give you everything you need. The app works on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
What was really refreshing was how the app presented content in a clean and concise way. It is extremely easy to use and the organizational features make finding what you want easier.
Projects become Channels in BoostHQ. You can create a Channel and assign roles. These roles include: Owner, Contributor, and Viewer. After creating a Channel, you can add members and assign them roles. Invites to potential members can be sent via email, messenger, LinkedIn and more. The Owner has the rights to add and remove content and members. Contributors can add content and view everything on the Channel. Viewers have rights to view content and add comments.
After creating a Channel, you can start populating it with the content. This could be actual files or links to files. Links can be established between BoostHQ and:
Once you have assembled your channel, members can like items, send comments, and make updates for other to review. The app offers a single sourcing point from where members can access files and information needed to the get the project completed.
Another great feature that I found especially useful was real-time collaboration that referenced and shared content. This allows team members to get feedback and updates instantaneously, bring the team closer to results.
While it seems like BoostHQ could lead to an information overload situation, you can breathe easy knowing this is definitely not the case. The app allows you to highlight content based on channels and such, so you see what you need to see, and nothing more. Think of it as a filter of sorts.
The only thing that is missing here is access to the app via a Mac. Developers and collaborators will be doing most of their work from a workstation, making accessibility to the app and projects crucial. As soon as that shows up, I can see this app increasing applicability and usage by tenfold.
This app is hands down still a very efficient way to collect, find, and share content with your teams, wherever they may be.
