A picture is worth a thousand words. If that is the case, imagine what you can say with a 3D image. While taking photos and sharing them has been with us for so many years, first as photos you take and develop, then as photos you take and print and upload, we now have the luxury of supercomputing machines that can capture images of objects in 3D and save them for use in whatever way we wish.
While 3D scanners can be expensive, that does not mean you can’t create a 3D image. Cappy AR is an app that works with the specially designed iPhone X camera to scan an image with enough data points to create a 3D image file. This file can then be used by any device that supports augmented reality.
Cappy AR is available for download on all iOS devices. All it requires is iOS 11.0 or later. The scanning feature is available only on iPhone X, so if you plan on scanning and creating, then having that device that would be your number one requirement. If you have any other iOS device, you can still download Cappy AR, and it’s for free. You will only be able to browse the selection of 3D images that have been uploaded by fellow Cappy AR users and you may be able to use them if you have support for augmented reality.
Uses for these 3D images are endless. If you are in marketing or sales or any kind of media related arena, you can use 3D imagery to represent your product in a better light. Help your customers, current and potential, see the true nature of your product.
If you are an artist, you may use 3D imagery to enhance your artwork or help you model a prototype of a vision you have. Speaking of prototypes, engineers could use Cappy AR to capture and save an image of an item that needs to be enhanced. A 3D image would give the engineers a great starting point from which to brainstorm and design.
Scanning is easy. All you do is hold the phone over the item you want to scan and then move the phone in a slow circular motion, staying the same distance from the item at all times. Don’t move your camera towards and away from the item, as the focus and image capture will become distorted.
Before you scan you have the ability of choosing some basic 3D scanning options. You can choose the color of your mesh image, which would kind of be like the overall 3D image but in one color. You can also choose to turn on or off the ability to show wireframes and guides. If you want to start from scratch, you can reset the AR.
Overall the app was very easy to use. I also like that it lets you know when to stop scanning, otherwise you could be hovering your phone over something as if you were casting some spell. What could be improved upon is shutting off the scanning capability in the version that gets downloaded to non iPhone X devices, because those devices will never scan. As it currently stands, you can start the scanning process, but nothing happens and it never closes that screen, leaving you wondering if the app is doing anything at all.
For iPhone X users, it works like a charm. It will make any of your creations even better with 3D imagery that you create on your own or borrow from another.

Yesterday, while I was at work, my sister stole my apple
ipad and tested to see if it can survive a 40 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is
now destroyed and she has 83 views. I know this
is completely off topic but I had to share it with someone!
