Scandy Pro – 3D Scanning Goes Mobile

If you are an artist or work on a production floor, you know all too well the value in being able to capture, edit and save 3D scans. They are used in a ton of applications. On a more personal note, folks are really getting into what you they do to outdo friends and family with images they post and share through social media. No matter what your mode of operation is, Scandy Pro can provide 3D scanning capabilities for all, if you have an iPhone X at your disposal.

Previously available on Android, the creators at Scandy have expanded their offering to include iPhone X, XS, XS Max and XR. Note that this app does not work for any other iPhone device for taking scans. You can however view scans if you have the app.

For all those artists out there, Scandy Pro put the power of 3D scanning in your hands, so you can capture art when you see it. You don’t need to have your special 3D scanner by your side. With your iPhone you’ll be able to scan and save and make your manipulations later. Once you complete taking a scan, all you do is save it and then pull it up for editing and use when you are ready for it.

On a more industrial note, Scandy Pro can turn everyday mobile devices, which are easy to keep on your person, into sophisticated 3D scanners. This allows folks on the production floor to take samples of product, scan them and use their mesh to make measurements. More specifically, if you have a mesh of a product that is considered in spec, you can compare the meshes of samples against the standard to look for deviations and issues with product. It’s instant feedback that is easy to take and use.

If you don’t plan on using Scandy Pro in either of those modes, but just want to have fun taking 3D images, that is available to you, too. While most people you know are taking 2D images and adding fun overlays and caricatures to their images, you can outdo them all by scanning and sharing a 3D image of yourself or of anything else. Wow your viewers with something new!

You may be wondering if the app may be complicated to use. Well, nothing could be further from the truth. Scandy Pro sets you up with guidance and helpful steps so you position your iPhone exactly where it needs to me and will be prompted to move it in just the right way for the camera to capture all the images it needs to construct a complete 3D image.

Note that once you have scanned an image, if you want to save it, you do have to pay to have it saved. A smarter option is to sign up for one of several subscriptions that Scandy Pro offers. Scans can be saved as .ply, .stl and .obj files for use in different ways. Scans can also be uploaded to Sketchfab for use in that tool.

All you need is the right iPhone, then download Scandy Pro and you are on your way to scanning and sharing 3D fun with all.
