Healthzilla – Monitor Fitness and Wellness Data to Stay on Track

There are a ton of apps out there that help people manage their health and fitness goals. They range from simple trackers to elaborate planners. Simpler apps count basic metrics like steps taken, flights climbed, calories burned, and hours spent in slumber. At the other end of the spectrum, the fancier apps allow users to enter information about their current state of health and exercise routine so the app has an idea of your start point. Users can then set goals and the app will suggest a plan of attack on how to meet them.

Healthzilla is one of the more fancier apps. It works on iOS and talks to your Apple Watch and Fitbit devices. So, you can either on and be sure that your metrics are being collected. To expand on that, Healthzilla can sync to any device that supports HealthKit (Wahoo, Xiaomi, Nokia and Garmin), and includes well known apps like Cardiogram, Calm, Lark, Lifesum, MyFitnessPal, Strava, Nike, Oak, Headspace, 8fit, Zova and Waking Up.

The app itself is a free download, however I would recommend signing up for the $2.99/month subscription, so you get access to all workouts. Now that I’ve jumped ahead of myself, I should mention that the app is loaded with workouts that are assembled into a program based on your goals, data collected and your assessment, and evolve as you progress.

To start, the app will perform an analysis of the data that’s already been captured in Apple Health and from the Fitbit app. It factors in your resting heart rate, heart rate variability, body fat, sleep stats, workouts, steps taken, activity levels, calorie intake and mindfulness. This becomes your baseline and it’s also the data that will be constantly collected and analyzed to further fine tune your program.

What’s important to note is that Healthzilla not only monitors your physical wellness, it keeps track of your mental wellness as well, because that has a huge impact on overall health. Users will get notifications on a daily basis on how they are doing and what their stress levels are. More data means better recommendations for improving overall health.

In addition to this, Healthzilla evaluates your current overall stress level and health and recovery from the last workout to recommend what’s best for you today. You get this on a daily basis.

What I liked is that there are workouts at all levels of abilities, so you will always have variety and an exercise routine that you can complete with some challenge. There are weight training sessions similar to what you’d find at the gym and cardio workouts.

I would like to see support for more devices so even more users can take advantage of the app. It would also be nice to get reports from it to see progress over time with some trending so you can visually see progress and problem areas.

Healthzilla has done a great job of creating a health app that not only considers physical fitness as a factor but mental wellness as a contributing factor in your overall health, using both to design a program that grows with you, one day at a time.
