Not many games are geared for an audience consisting of varying ages. Many games cater to specific age ranges – ones specific to kids, ones specific to teens, others specific to adults only (which most can get to anyway). If you are interested in trying out a game that is free to download and is simple and safe enough for anyone to play, give Paint My House: Puzzle and Fun a try.
It’s a simplistic game of painting a house’s exterior using varying types of “brushes”. The aim of the game is to paint without getting disrupted by obstacles and do so before other players are done. What’s not so easy is moving your painting tool around in the most efficient way possible. For instance, when you first download the game, you will be given one painting tool – a square shaped brush. This brush moves vertically and horizontally. If there is something blocking its path, it stops right there. So, what this means for you is that you have to move it back and forth side to side and up and down to get to every nook and cranny and paint all the white spaces.
To move the painting tool, you tap on it and swipe it in the direction you want it to move. It moves on its own until it hits something. At first, you may find yourself painting over areas you’ve already covered to get to all of the while spots, but soon, you’ll discover more efficient ways of moving the tool around to cover the entire white space in a minimal number of moves.
As you complete levels, you will earn more points and the opportunity to use better painting tools that make it even easier to paint faster. There are 18 different types of tools you can use, and you can unlock them as you complete the required number of levels. If you don’t have the patience, you can always make an in-app purchase to gain access to all of them.
In some ways, this game teaches some amount of geometry, because it requires you to move around and predict where your brush will stop, forcing you to strategize on the right paths to cover each white spot. I found it to be a small challenge that got you hooked and wanting more. What really keeps you in the game is the conciseness of each game. Each level is the equivalent of painting a house. So, each level is truly something competed.
I found at times that the paint did not apply all the way and there were still white spaces showing even though I had clearly moved the tool over the area.
Very simple on the surface, Paint House is a very fun app to download and try out. It’s surprisingly addicting and will fill your time when you need something to do.
