Encourage your Child to Learn a Language with Habla y Lenguaje

Is your child having a hard time learning your mother tongue or a common language? Do they face trouble while pronouncing a specific word or sound? Though there are several ways that help your kid speak clearly, speech and language therapy is the most effective of them all. And getting in touch with a Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is the best solution. However, given the current situation, you might feel unsafe to take your kids to a speech therapist regularly. And this is where an app comes to your rescue.

Habla y Lenguaje by Jamilet Figueroa is an interactive, fun, and comprehensive speech & language therapy iOS app. This app is created by a certified Speech and Language Pathologist to help children overcome their difficulties while learning English and/or Spanish. It assists general education children and children with disabilities alike.

Once you click on the installed app icon, you will be able to choose amongst four principal areas of Speech and Language development for children, semantics, pragmatics, syntax, morphology, and articulation. Semantics is the study of the connection between words and our ability to understand what they mean. Under semantics, the app covers vocab, category, functions, synonyms, antonyms, and spatial concepts. Each exercise is tailor-made to explain concepts to your kids in a unique way.

For instance, the skill ‘vocabulary’ prompts you to select the number of alternative answers for questions and pick a category that includes farm animals, wild animals, summer & winter clothes, fruits, vegetables, body parts, and objects around the house. Once your kid chooses a category, teach them the word, its syllables, and ask them to repeat it. Once you think they learned the word right, ask them to locate the correct answer among the options. Your kid will touch the correct answer right away. In addition to learning the correct answer, you can also teach them about alternative options are, what they mean, and explain them. Click on the ear icon next to the question & alternatives and make them listen to the pronunciation again.

Pragmatics covers work memory/follow commands (1, 2, or 3 steps), inferences, emotions, and social conventions. Under work memory – 1 step, they can listen to the names of colors, repeat after the recorded voice and ultimately locate the color.

Under Morphosyntax, the free skill plural helps your children learn the plural of words. The recorded voice helps your kids learn sentences, plurals, and repeats if clicked on.

The app also has the option to slow the speech rate or fasten it, modify the pitch and adjust the speaking volume. Before you head back to skills, you can re-confirm your voice settings by clicking the ear icon.

Habla y Lenguaje keeps track of your kid’s performance & progress in addition to providing you tips to teaching them better, all from the comfort of your home. Once you go through the 3 free skills, you will find the monthly subscription worth the money.
