Snake Returns Gets You Back to the Old Days

A Classic Game with Modern Touches!

Snake is one of the most popular casual games ever created for mobile devices. This simple game was once available on all the mobile phones. However, the arrival of smartphones has kept users from looking for the Snake a few years. Now this pretty little game has managed to find its place even in the smartphone era.

Snake Returns, an iPhone game developed by Mobivention, is the modern version of the classical Snake. After launching this game, users can get into it by selecting Survive mode or Eat mode. In the Survive mode, the game would come to an end when the snake touches the wall, while the Eat mode lets players move through different levels – such as Infinite Hunt, Tasty Challenge, Wonder Walls and Egg Mania – after eating specified amount of eggs.

Players can also optionally enable the special rules like Slow Motion, Halved Growth and Doubled Power-up. As the snake eats more eggs, it will grow and the game would become more difficult for the players to guide this creature in a way that it doesn’t bite its own tail.

This app is available for free, but users could power it up with in-app purchases. They can remove ads, upgrade to full version and get new snake designs and new lives with the purchases that cost from USD 0.99 to 2.99. Snake Returns comes integrated with Game Center to let users share high scores and achievements.

At present users can control the movement of the snake by tilting, tapping and swiping. I find swiping to be very effective, while the tapping option seems to be somewhat good. However, it is very hard to play this game by tilting. I think the accelerometer control is not a smart choice for the games like this or there should be better way to implement it.

Snake Returns is compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad and requires iOS 4.3 or later. A premium version of this game is available for USD 2.99. This app was launched only a week ago and this first version looks fine. If you want to get nostalgic, get Snake Returns!
