This Security Program has a very simplistic user interface. As you open the app, a menu screen opens. On this page, there are six options: Scan Now, Watch Dog, Block Mic, Mic Apps, Trusted Apps, Read More. There is also a menu button in the top right-hand corner of the screen. When you click on this button, two options open: Settings, and Premium.
From the settings you can adjust the Watch Dog frequency and what they are looking for. These settings are paranoid, balanced or energy saving. You can also change the alert settings for Watch Dog from this settings panel. The premium feature unlocks all of the features on this application, including unlimited microphone blocking. The main menu features offer multiple services.
Scan Now: This feature checks for immediate microphone usage by any apps on your phone whenever you want, all you have to do is push the button and the scan begins. Watch Dog: This feature actively reports what apps require microphone use, they also alert you when apps are recording you or monitoring your microphone as it happens.
Block Mic: This feature blocks all microphone use by applications for a certain period of time, for example, when you are in a private conference call with someone, or discussing personal information. Mic Apps: Manages apps that require microphone use, you can also change settings for these applications.
Trusted Apps: This is a list of apps on your phone that are safe and do not try to use or monitor your microphone. Read More: This feature just simply shows other articles, blog posts, and application that are related to the company that created this app.
This app seems too simple. The oversimplified interface does not go into great detail about how everything works. Unless you have a great deal of knowledge about how spyware works, you may not understand what this app exactly does. It took me a while to even understand what exactly the application did and how it interacted with the other applications on my phone. I think that this app needs an overhaul in the description department. This may include more detailed definitions of what the features do, and more extensive detail about what the application does.
Another issue I had with this application is that it seemed a bit unprofessional. I thought it was strange that an application that promotes privacy and trustworthiness, would feature ads for other applications and articles. It makes me feel like their product may not be as trustworthy as they are trying to make it seem. The concept is excellent, but the current interface does not match the level of sophistication and trust that users look for in a security application. On the other hand, the application does an excellent job protecting the user from overly invasive applications. For someone who is very private, owning a smartphone can prove challenging. With every website you visit adding extensions and cookies to your device, the invasion of privacy becomes too much.
This application provides some relief to those smartphone users. Android phones are more likely to pick up viruses or invasive applications that monitor users without their knowledge or consent. This application has the potential to be an excellent source of privacy safety for android users.
