Looking for a game that suits all ages? Sometimes you just need a game to keep you busy for a bit, or for a while. Candy Words is a mix of a wordscape game and Candy Crush. While you won’t be crushing tiles and eliminating them from the game space, you will be swapping tiles to make words in the least amount of time possible.
The setup is such: you get a matrix of letter tiles and a list of words. There’s also a timer. You get 90 seconds to arrange the tiles in such a way as to build each word. The words must appear from left to right and from top to bottom. No other direction is allowed and all words must appear on one line.
While is sounds difficult, it really is not. All it takes is some practice. I do have to say that initially I thought I was supposed to swipe and touch each letter to “mark” the word, but after a few tries I realized this was doing nothing and then resorted to doing more research, to learn that I was supposed to tap on two tiles to swap them. By swapping tiles, you then place the letter in a way that helps to build each word.
At first, this will be easy. You will have 3 4-letter words and 3 words to build. Each word will be built on one line. As you progress, the words will vary in length, which makes a bit more difficult to figure out how to arrange the letters. To add to the challenge, you will find that some letters need to be used in more than one word, so placement becomes crucial in those instances. 2-letter words can start anywhere on the matrix, even in the middle, to end at the rightmost column of the matrix. This is when your world building skills come into play and must be used wisely to place the letters correctly.
As you complete puzzles, you will earn stars which puts coins in your coffer. If you run out of coins, and this is easy to do, you will have to either purchase more or watch in-app ads. The nice thing here is that you are not forced to spend money. You can play the ad and then move on. You can use coins to buy hints as well, so you don’t have to completely crap out of a game.
What I would love to see is an explanation of how to pay, swapping tiles that is. I had to read the app’s description to get it. It was not in the app.
I look forward to some of the updates that the developers have offered in the app description, such as multiplayer functions, listing achievements and a World Leaderboard.
If you are looking for a new game that works for all, I highly recommend Candy Words. It has something for anyone who loves words!
