Good News – An RSS Reader That is Simple to Use!

Provides access to a variety of information topics and sources!

If you are an RSS junkie and love to be informed, on the go, and at your pace, Good News is just the app for you. It’s an RSS reader that is simple to use, can be customized according to your particular interests and priorities and provides access to a variety of information topics and sources.

After you download the app, it is extremely straightforward to use. The interface emits an almost Zen-like aura, rendering information on the Latest News page without distractive use of colorful images, video clips, or noise. Depending on your level of expertise with RSS readers, you can dig deep and check out more involved features, or stick with the simple and enjoy those at leisure.

Good News

Good News feeds you news in an assortment of topics including, but not limited to: News, Sports, Entertainment, Lifestyle, Science, Technology, and more. To start with, you will first come to a page showing the Latest News. These are listed on your screen with a title and a short synopsis. Click on a tile for the story you wish to read, and you are taken to a new page showing the article and possible images. Swipe down from the top of this page to read the article in its entirety from within the app, or swipe left to view the article on a web page. The options are provided by the app according to how they are loaded. Swipe your finger towards the right to return to the list of articles. Swipe again to the right to return to the main screen.

At the very top of the main screen sits four icons saddling the title of the subject you are viewing. The top left takes you to the list of news categories. The plus sign allows you to add feeds you wish to follow, which can be selected by category. The conversation bubble allows you to “hear” the news article selected. The gear icon allows you set or adjust your preferences.

Settings is where you can get down into the details of this app and make it work better. You can synchronize all RSS feed applications, so that you are reading one clear set of feeds. It also allows you to connect with social media apps, choose your preferred browser, setup iCloud syncing, and choose what types of additional information you wish to see.

There really is not much to complain about with this app. After playing around with it a bit, reading a few articles, and listening to a few more, I really could not say that there was something lacking. The only things that took me by surprise is that I accidentally bookmarked a few articles without knowing it. By swiping left or right on article synopses, you are adding them to your bookmark list. This is indicated with a heart icon. You can go into the Bookmark list and remove them by swiping right.

Overall, I give this app a “thumbs up”. It only costs $.99, and is worth every penny if you like an easy way to keep in touch with what’s happening, while customizing what you wish to see.
